The Past 2 Months

Since Dan and I are just now getting our blog up and running, I thought I would give a few highlights from the past couple of months.

We celebrated my 32nd birthday at my favorite restaurant in Atlanta, Kyma, just two days after finding out I was pregnant. The waiter was so nice and asked the bartender to mix a few fruit juices together for me in a martini glass so we could "toast" the occasion.

Later in April, we traveled to NC to celebrate my nephew's 9th birthday. I can't believe how quickly he is growing...I was there when he was born!

We celebrated Dan's birthday on Cinco de Mayo by going to the Braves game. It was the first time with friends I had to come up with multiple excuses as to why I wasn't enjoying a Tomahawk beer. Luckily I had the birthday boy DD excuse!

We also celebrated a friends birthday in the beginning of June, and that is when we made our pregnancy news "public" to everyone since I was at the 12 week mark. It was great, as there were 4 pregnant women at the party, all lined up on the couch drinking bottles of water. Other guests were sure to keep their wives/girlfriends away from our side of the couch, and cautioned them to not drink the water!!!
We have also made the decision to relocate to NC before the babies are born to be closer to family. We are going to need all the extra hands and help we can get! It will be hard to leave all of the friends and friends that are like family in Atlanta, but we know we will visit when we can, and we hope to have a guest room in our new house so we can have visitors, too! We have made several trips to NC to look at houses over the past few months, and spent countless hours on the internet as well. We hope to find something soon, and move sometime by the end of August/first of September. That doesn't leave much time to find a house, negotiate a price, and close, but we are optimistic it will all fall into place soon! Luckily we have sold our house in GA, so it will make moving that much easier. More updates to come soon...

But Dan is never right

We went in for tests over the course of several days, and my HCG levels (which are hormones that detect pregnancy) were a little higher than normal. And then a lot higher than normal. Dan kept saying "I think we are having twins." No way. Not possible. Dan is never right!

Then came our 6 week ultrasound, and the doctor said "there's one, and there's the other." The other what? The other arm, the other leg? No...the other baby! Then he zoomed in on the flutters of two little heartbeats, and it became all too real.

We are having TWINS!

And round 2 of the phone calls began...

The Worst Kept Secret

After celebrating my birthday the evening before (mojitos included), I woke up feeling not quite right. And I'm not talking about the I'm going to be sick because I drank too much feeling. More like, omigosh, I think I might be pregnant feeling. So as Dan slept, I took the first of many pregnancy tests. I was in total shock and disbelief....were there TWO lines? After hoping month after month to see that second elusive line, I thought my eyes were deceiving me. I couldn't wait to wake Dan up so he could verify the second line as well. I don't know who was more shocked! Could it be a false positive? I needed verification! So off we went to Kroger at 8am on Easter Sunday to get another test, just to be sure. And there it was again...a plus sign this time!

WE WERE PREGNANT!!!!!!

We know, tradition says to wait until we are past the "first trimester", the all important 12 week milestone. But patience is NOT my virtue, so let the phone calls begin! We called our parents first, siblings, and close friends to share our much anticipated news. Even though it was early in the pregnancy, we were hopeful that everything would go well, and by Chrismas, we would have a beautiful new baby to hold.

A lil' bit about us...

Dan and I met in the fall of 2000 in Atlanta, GA. We dated for a couple of years, and got engaged in Hilo, Hawaii in September, 2002. After we got married in October 2003 in our home state of NC, we decided to enjoy married life for a few years before having children. We were able to travel to some amazing places, including New Zealand for our honeymoon, Ireland, and London. But we always knew our life of as "dinks" (dual income no kids) would eventually come to an end; we both knew we always wanted children to be a part of our lives. Not everything goes according to plan, though, and after trying for over a year, we were finally blessed with the most wonderful news on Easter Sunday-April 12th, 2009.....we were pregnant!
