Luke is starting to notice Olivia, and smiled at her the other day. It was the cutest thing! She notices him some as well, and I would love to know what they are thinking. Luke also imitated us by trying to stick his tongue out as us while saying "ahhhh." We have such smart babies!
Now that they are more aware of one another, they are also starting to wake each other up sometimes. And if Luke is crying (he hates to be burped-don't take his food away!), Olivia will stop eating and just stare. It's as if his crying startles her. It is so fun to see them begin to interact with one another, and we look forward to seeing what they discover next time.

We got a house!!!
FINALLY-our babies will have their very own room! Our quest to move to NC has not been easy, but we know it will be worth it in the end. We put an offer on a short sale August 2nd (yes, I said AUGUST!) and we FINALLY heard from the bank on Thursday that they have accepted our offer. We close on Monday, March 22nd. What an exciting day!!!
We went to dinner Thursday night to celebrate with the babies, and we got confirmation of the closing date today. Now we just have to get through the appraisal and inspection, and then it's Mt Holly-here we come! It is going to be a hectic couple of months trying to get packed and unpacked, but Luke and Olivia will finally be able to sleep in their own cribs in their own rooms (instead of a pack-n-play). I CANNOT wait to decorate their nursery, hang their clothes in a closet instead of folding them on top of our dresser, and give them their very own space to call their own.

A weeks worth of sleep
Well, it looks as if the babies have hit another milestone and are sleeping through the night. Not bad, considering they are only 12 weeks old! They fall asleep anywhere between 10pm and 11pm, and wake up between 4:30am-5:30am. Sometimes they fall back asleep after the morning feeding, allowing me so much time to get some stuff done (such as updating our blog!). We are so proud of them!
Luckily Luke is feeling much better, and Olivia seems to have dodged the cold (how that happened is a miracle!). She has a stuffy nose, but none of the other symptoms or temperature. They are both smiling and cooing a ton, and holding their heads up so well. Every day is a new adventure, but we love it!

Post-Babies run
Today I attempted my first run since before the babies were born. I was such an avid runner before I got pregnant, but the doctors asked me to slow down a bit so we could try to get pregnant. So it's been over a year since I ran my regular route.
Well, there was no regular route running today! I managed to make it just over a mile before I was breathing heavily! I know I'll build back up eventually, and hopefully I can run that half marathon in NC in December.
It was also the first time I have been in the house without the babies. Dan had to go to a friends house to pick up something, and he took the babies with him. It was so weird (and quiet!) to be in the house without everyone, and I found myself looking for them during the short time they were gone.
It felt great to run again, and I look forward to the babies getting bigger so I can put them in the jogging stroller and they can join me. I can only imagine what a workout that will be pushing 25 lbs of baby plus stroller!

Our first sick baby
It was bound to happen. I have been battling a cold for a couple of weeks in the hopes that it would escape the babies. No such luck. Luke first got a stuffy nose, then a sneeze followed by a cough, and finally a fever. He looks so pitiful. His little nose and eyes are so red.
We are doing all the things we can to make him feel better. Humidifier with vicks pad inserted, baby vicks on his chest, tylenol, steam from our showers and lots of cuddles. We spoke with the doctor, and she said there is nothing else we can really do except to wait it out and keep an eye on his temperature. Right now it goes between 99.2 and 101.4. It has been staying mostly in the 99.6 range, so luckily it's a low grade temp. Now we are crossing our fingers and toes that little miss Olivia doesn't catch the same cold. Too good to be true? We'll see!

A full night of sleep!
We finally got a full night of sleep; the first night of sleep I've had since before I was pregnant. The babies fell asleep about 9:30pm and didn't wake up until 4:30am. It was wonderful!!!
When Luke woke up hungry, Dan and I looked at the clock and did a triple take. What happened to our 2am wake-up call? We asked each other if we had fed the babies and just not remembered (hey, it's happened before!), and then we realized they slept though it. We rushed to the crib to make sure Olivia was ok, and she was snoozing away. We have determined she is our sleeper, and Luke is our eater!
Who knows if this trend will continue, but we'll take each minute of blissful sleep that we can.

Snow Day!!!
It finally snowed in Atlanta! YAY! It seems like all of our family in NC has gotten the snow this year, and it always bypasses us. Not this time...we got about 2-3 inches.
I wanted to commemerate the babies first snow day, so I built them each their very own snowman, and collected some snow for them to keep in a tiny jar. Luke was so excited he slept the entire time, and Olivia tried to eat her hat, but they enjoyed themselves nonetheless. I look forward to the times they have a snowball fight, but we are enjoying these times now and wish time would slow down just a little bit!

Playdate #2
Luke and Olivia had their 2nd playdate with another set of twins and Lisa's son, Anderson. It was surreal to see such tiny babies again, and it reminds me just how quickly our little ones are growing up. It is all going by too fast already!
Jen's twins are about 5 weeks old, but were born about 7 weeks early, so they are still tiny. They slept most of the time...boy do I miss those days! =) Jen was able to prepare a wonderful lunch, with real china and everything! I felt like such an adult! Olivia was the only girl, and she didn't seem to mind one bit! We had a great time, and look forward to many more fun playdates soon!

Playdate for Luke and Olivia
Luke and Olivia had a very fun playdate yesterday with two other babies. Anderson (Lisa's son) was born two weeks before our babies, and Charlotte (Joni's daughter) was born 2 weeks after our babies. It was so interesting to see the different stages each baby is in, and how they sort of recognized other babies being in the room. Of course Luke and Olivia are used to seeing anohter baby every day (each other!), but I swear at one point Olivia looked at Anderson crying and said "that's not my brother's cry). They did very well, and Luke stayed awake the entire day. I think he was loving being in a new environment and didn't want to miss a thing.
Next week we are going to visit another friend who had twin boys on January 4th. It will be the first time we'll be around babies tinier than ours for a change!

New job title
After much careful deliberation, I decided to resign from my job on Wednesday, which was supposed to be my return date. Dan and I had already decided I would stay home with our babies for about 2 years, especially with us moving to NC (there wasn't a position available for me to transfer). As luck would have it, a position just became available in Charlotte about a month ago. So Dan and I had to decide if I would return to work or stay home as planned.
It was a difficult decision, especially given today's economic climate and the fact that I really love my job and company. I was a physician sales rep for BD Diagnostics and had the best boss in the world. But when we weighed the cost of daycare, and the irreplaceable cost of being with our babies during these early critical years (and the fact we are only having babies once!), we decided we would stick with our original plan. Luckily I left on good terms with my company, so who knows if I'll be able to return one day, or I may find a completely different career once the time comes. For now, I am thankful we are able for me to stay home with our babies and see them grow, learn, and change every day. I don't want to miss anything!

2 Month check up and shots
Luke and Olivia had their 2 month check up and shots today. I think it was definitely harder for me than for them. I cried with them so they weren't alone =) They had to get 4 shots each, but luckily they have a combo shot option. That meant they only got 2 shots, one in each thigh, and an oral vaccine. We gave them some Tylenol before their visit, and we will keep them on Tylenol for the next 24 hours to help ease their discomfort. They did great getting the shots, and only cried for a minute. They are such troopers!
They are progressing perfectly, and did so well when Dr. Mona put them on their tummies. Both of them held their head up and reached up on their arms, and she said they would definitely be turning over soon. Dan and I will have to be extra careful when that happens; no more putting them in the middle of the bed to grab their bottles! We are going to increase their Zantac, as their reflux has been getting worse in the past week or so. We are also going to modify their eating schedule just a bit; more feedings with less milk during the day and more milk at night in the hopes they will go longer stretches and eventually (fingers crossed!) sleep through the night!
Here are their measurements at 2 months:
Luke:
Weight: 11.2 lbs (37%)
Height: 21.5" (7%)
Head circumference: 15.5" (36%)
Olivia
Weight: 9.4 lbs (14%)
Height: 20.75" (4%)
Head circumference: 14.5" (8%)

Through the eyes of a child
It is amazing to see the world through the eyes of a 2 month old baby (make that two 2 month old babies)!. It is the most wonderful sight to see them learning how to smile and laugh, and to see how amazed they are at the smallest things...a ceiling fan, a spot on the wall, a noise on TV. There are so many ordinary things we as adults take for granted, and it's refreshing to take a step back, lay down beside them, and see what they are seeing.
Luke and Olivia have really started smiling a lot and are on the verge of full on laughter. It may have already happened, or it may have been gas! We are thinking gas for now but they are so close! It is the absolute cutest thing when they break into a full on smile for no reason! They are also starting to roll around a good bit, and will be turning over before we know it. Our babies are growing up so fast!
I promise-they were holding hands on their own. So sweet!
